Update: Body Found in Burned Car in Davis County Identified

On Saturday January 27, a farmer in Pulaski saw a burning vehicle and called 911. When the authorities arrived to investigate, they discovered human remains in the burned out vehicle. The body was sent to Ankeny for an autopsy.

The body has been identified as 63 year old Sharon Kay Moritz of Northwood, Iowa. She does have family that lives in Davis County and they have been notified and interviewed. Authorities will not disclose the specifics of the interviews saying it is still a pending investigation.

The burned out car that Moritz’s remains were found in was a 2006 white Chevy Impala. The vehicle is registered to Moritz.

It is still unknown if there was foul play. Officials are waiting for the full autopsy results which will take four to six weeks. Authorities did tell Ottumwa Radio News that this case appears to be an isolated incident and that the public is safe.
