Unoccupied prison needs millions of dollars in repair

There’s more bad news for the new 132-million dollar prison in Fort Madison.

A number of legislators from the area say it will cost an additional 7-million dollars for repairs.

Despite ribbon cutting ceremonies held in 2013, the new facility remains empty because of construction problems.

The state fire marshal’s office still hasn’t authorized occupancy because of a lack of compliance with the state’s building code.
