Two Days of Crashes Keep Oskaloosa Police Busy

Heading into the weekend, the Oskaloosa Police Department were sent to two separate vehicle crashes on January 10 and 11 with one resulting in a fatality.

The first accident was a 66-year-old female who had gone off the road and stuck a garage on the 300 block of 3rd Ave. W around 7:30 p.m. on January 10. When they arrived at the scene, the driver was unconscious. After the initial investigation, they surmised she had suffered a debilitating medical event which caused her to crash. She subsequently passed away after being taken to a local hospital.

Around 12:22 on January 11, the police and Mahaska County Sheriff’s Department went to a reported crash involving a pedestrian on A Ave East and North D St. Investigation proved a pedestrian had been struck by the vehicle while it was turning. The driver, Jennifer Yelik, 41, was cited for Failure to Yield to a Pedestrian Within an Intersection and the person stuck was taken to the hospital for serious injuries.
