Four area prep football teams played in the first round of the high school playoffs last Friday night, but only one was left standing for the quarterfinals. #8 Twin Cedars improved its record to 10-0 on the season with a come-from-behind 24-22 win at home over Iowa Valley. The Sabers fell behind with under a minute to play, but used a hook-and-lateral play with 13 seconds left to tie the game, then made the two-point conversion to secure the win.
In the quarterfinals of the 8-Man playoffs, Twin Cedars faces 8-2 Midland. The Eagles from Wyoming, IA are unranked, but their only two losses are to #4 Don Bosco, and to an 8-1 Lone Tree squad that somehow got left out of the playoffs. In the first round, Midland demolished HLV 80-24. Twin Cedars had defeated HLV 32-14 in the final week of the regular season to earn the district championship.
A home victory for Twin Cedars Friday night would advance the Sabers to the state semifinals at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls against either Don Bosco or #5 Central Elkader. The 8-Man semifinals will be played on Thursday, November 10th.
