Triple-Arrest in Car Theft

A triple-arrest was made by Wapello County Sheriff’s Department after an investigation of a suspicious vehicle near the intersection of 73rd and 82nd Streets early morning hours of Thursday, December 6.

Heidi Sigalia-Garcia, 38, was found alone in the vehicle. An Ottumwa Police officer who had previously stopped the vehicle in Ottumwa city limits said there had been two men in the vehicle with her and an investigation ensued. Sigalia-Garcia was arrested for Driving while Suspended (Simple Misdemeanor) and ultimately Conspiracy to commit Theft (Class D Felony).

The search and investigation resulted in the arrests of Joey Alan Scurlock, 49, and Myles Sauer, 27. A stolen vehicle was recovered that had been stolen earlier in the morning as well. Sauer was charged with Theft in the Second (Class D Felony), Burglary in the Third Degree – Theft from Motor Vehicle (Aggravated Misdemeanor), and Conspiracy to commit Theft (Class D Felony). Scurlock was charged with Burglary – Theft from Motor Vehicle (Aggravated Misdemeanor) and Conspiracy to commit Theft (Class D Felony).

Bonds are as follows: Sauer, 37,000 dollars, Scurlock, 5,000 dollars and Sigalia-Garcia – 5,000 dollars.

Sheriff’s Office states further charges are expected as the investigation continues.
