1:00 PM update:

KBIZ has learned more details about last nights shooting. We spoke with Lt Jason Bell of the Ottumwa Police Dept who told us that the victim and suspect did not know each other prior to the shooting, the suspect went to the home looking for property that he believed to be there. Police were led to McDanel by eyewitnesses.

Lt Bell tells us that a handgun was used was used in the shooting, which has not been recovered.

We’ve also learned that this is not McDanel’s first brush with the law, he’s had outstanding warrants since October 2014 when he walked way from the Ottumwa Residential Treatment Center (halfway house). He was originally arrested for drug violations and assault with a weapon.

The Suspect is still at large.
