A juvenile is facing criminal charges after allegedly bringing a gun to the Ottumwa High School.
Ottumwa Schools reported today that a student brought a gun to school in a backpack. The student showed the gun to two students while sitting outside, then left the premises. Students immediately alerted school administrators. Administration worked with the OHS School Resource Officers and the Ottumwa Police Department. The student was taken into custody shortly after the initial report was made and the case was immediately investigated.
The district assures everyone that no threats were made to staff or students, the weapon was never inside the school and is currently in the custody of local law enforcement. The student has been charged with possession of a weapon, is currently not in school, and will be disciplined according to Board Policy 502.06.
