Sonya Lundy Brewster, 64, of Oskaloosa, died Friday, February 24, 2023, at her home in Oskaloosa. She was born February 5, 1959, in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Richard Robert “Bob” and Mona Darlene Hollingsworth Lundy. She attended school in California through 7th grade. The family moved back to Iowa and Sonya finished school in Oskaloosa. Sonya worked various places in Oskaloosa and the surrounding area. She was generous to a fault and served as a motherly figure to many family, friends and neighbors. She was always willing to help friends and family. She enjoyed fishing, loved animals, playing games on her phone, playing games especially YAHTZEE and other various board games. She also enjoyed journaling, writing poetry and buying scratch off tickets. She was always up to watch a funny light hearted movie.
Her family includes her three daughters, Brandy (Mike) Uhler, Lora Roberts, and Tasha Rodriguez; 11 grandchildren, Trenton, Zachary, Seth, Jaylyn, Breanna, Jayden, Kaylee, Vellencia, Clara, Ava and Christian; 2 great grandchildren, her sister, Twyla (Doug) Herold of Oskaloosa; and a half sister, Connie Carver of Sigourney.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 4, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel with Reverend Troy Richmond officiating. Burial of the urn will be in the Hopewell Cemetery. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation with the family present will be held Friday from 5-7 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa. The family requests no flowers please and memorials may be made to Area Substance Abuse Council.
