SIMHC to Offer Free Depression Screenings

By Ellis Codjoe, October 10, 2018

Thursday, October 11 is National Depression Screening Day and the people at Southern Iowa Mental Health Center (SIMHC) are doing their part to spread awareness.

From 11:30 am to 3:30 pm, anyone can go to SIMHC on Albia Road and receive a free depression screening. After filling out a short questionnaire, a clinician will go over the results and recommend what can be done next.

The National Council estimates around 18 percent of adult Americans have depressive symptoms according to Christina Schark, the executive director of SIMHC.

Schark appeared on Mid Morning Magazine on KBIZ and also mentioned that with the days getting shorter and colder, depressive symptoms could arise.

Anyone with questions can contact SIMHC at (641) 682-8772.
