Shirley A. Acton, 94, formerly of Eldon, died at 1:22 a.m. August 4, 2022 at Oakwood Specialty Care in Albia under the care of Care Initiatives Hospice.
Shirley was born September 23, 1927 near Moville, IA to E. Lee and Gertrude Hare Conry. She married Paul E. Acton on September 23, 1947 and he preceded her in death on July 30, 2016.
A graduate of Ainsworth High School, Shirley attended Iowa Wesleyan College. She helped her husband on the farm north of Eldon from 1947 until retiring in 1985. She had also worked at O’Hara Hardware.
Shirley was a member of Agency United Methodist Church where she had been a long time member of the choir. She also had been a member of United Methodist Women and Chapter CG P.E.O. in Eldon.
Surviving are her children, Kristine Kay (Jerry) Haas of Albia and William Lee (Joan) Acton of Houston, TX; 5 grandchildren, Nicholas Haas, Nathan (Erin) Haas, Timothy (Stacy) Haas, Bethany (Darin) Hutchinson, Shawn (Christy) Alexander; 9 great-grandchildren, Rylee, Olivia, Avery, Katie, Jordan, Dylan, Marissa, Maya and Hendrik.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Eldon and Robert Conry.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, August 8th, at Agency Community Church with Pastor Kelly Peavey officiating. Burial will be in the Agency Cemetery. A reception will follow at Agency Community Church.
