A truck driver was fortunate to escape serious injury early Friday morning, after his semi overturned on Highway 63 north of Ottumwa.
Wapello County Sheriff Don Phillips tells Ottumwa Radio News that the semi went off the roadway, coming to rest on its side in the ditch. The truck was travelling northbound on 63, about halfway between Ottumwa and Eddyville, when the accident occurred.
Phillips says the driver was treated for minor injuries. The accident caused the right lane of northbound 63 to be closed off for several hours, until a tow truck could remove the semi cab and trailer from the ditch. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
