Search Warrant Leads to Two Arrests

Two men were arrested after authorities found $1,500 worth of stolen merchandise in an Ottumwa residence.

Thursday afternoon (January 9), Ottumwa police approached a home located at 127 Lincoln Avenue with a search warrant for a wanted fugitive, 26-year-old Joshua Sprague of Ottumwa (right in picture).

According to the criminal complaint, 36-year-old Robert Hoxsey of Ottumwa (left) told officers that nobody else was inside the residence. However, Sprague was found in the house’s attic after authorities executed their search warrant. Law enforcement also discovered the aforementioned stolen goods.

Sprague was arrested and charged with 2nd-degree theft (Class D felony) and Interference with Official Acts (simple misdemeanor). He was taken to the Wapello County Jail and is currently free after posting bond.

Hoxley was arrested and charged with Accessory after the fact (simple misdemeanor). He pleaded guilty and was fined.
