A southeast Iowa man is accused of leading authorities on a high-speed chase and also engaging in illicit activities with an underaged child last month.

26-year-old Joseph Reynolds of Mount Pleasant has been charged with eluding, enticing a minor under 16, drug distribution to a person under 18, and possession of a controlled substance – second violation.

Ottumwa police say on January 16th, Reynolds and a 13-year-old girl engaged in communication via Facebook. Reynolds sent the victim several pictures of his genitalia. Reynolds also took part in conversations with the victim that included illicit sex acts.

Court records allege Reynolds picked up the victim and bought marijuana which the pair smoked together. The victim’s mother later told police that she found her daughter in possession of three grams of marijuana. Reynolds also attempted to perform illegal sex acts with the victim. An arrest warrant for Reynolds was issued.

In the early morning hours of January 18th, the Wapello County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy attempted to pull over Reynolds who was driving a Ford Explorer near Harrows Branch. Reynolds refused to stop and led the deputy on a pursuit in which the speed reached 68 mph in a 30 mph zone.

After Reynolds was stopped, authorities allegedly found a green leafy substance in his vehicle that was determined to be marijuana.

Reynolds was arrested and transported to the Wapello County Jail. His bail has been set at $30,000.
