Sale promises thousands of books & other bargains

(Ottumwa) – May 12, 2014 – The third annual Pages for Pennies Book Sale will offer thousands of books and other items for sale May 16-18 at Bridge View Center. The new wrinkle this year is a brand-new surround sound system up for bid on the silent auction.

As in past years, the public will find great deals on used books, CDs, DVDs, LPs, board games, puzzles, and sheet music. Expect to find mysteries, romances, science fiction, self-help, cookbooks, children’s storybooks, biographies, and many others. Organizers have not only been astounded by the quantity of the donations but the quality too.

Everything is priced to sell with hardcover books marked at $2; paperbacks $1; CDs $2; DVDs $2; LPs $1; board games $2; puzzles $2; sheet music $.50; and bound music $1.50. If those prices don’t entice buyers, all items will be 50 percent off on the last day.

Electronics are front and center for the sale’s silent auction. Patrons can bid on a new Sony Home Theater System. It includes a 3D Blue-Ray Disc Player with built-in Wi-Fi for streaming Netflix, Hulu Plus, Pandora and other content. The retail value is $599. Here is a way to enjoy the DVDs available for purchase.

Admission is free all three days. Sale hours are 12-8 p.m. on Friday, May 16; 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday, May 17; and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on Sunday, May 18.

The book sale was inspired by those held at the former YWCA. Like those sales, all proceeds go to a good cause. In this case, they are split equally between the Friends of the Ottumwa Public Library, Bridge View Center, and Ottumwa Area Convention & Visitors Bureau.
