Roommate Charged with Washington Murder

By Ellis Codjoe, July 12, 2018

On Wednesday morning, the body of 70 year old Ed Jones was found near an apartment complex in Washington, Iowa. Jones had a stab wound in his upper torso. Additionally, there was a large fixed blade lying on Jones’ lap with blood on it. Authorities determined the death was suspicious and began an investigation.

Later Wednesday night, an arrest was made. 64 year old Clarence Pedersen was taken into custody and charged with first degree murder. Petersen was Jones’ roommate.

When he was interviewed, Pedersen admitted to owning a knife that matched the description of the one that was found in Jones’ lap. Pedersen’s belongings were searched and a handwritten note was found that read, “Kill Ed.”

Pedersen is currently in the Washington County Jail with no bond. First degree murder is a felony offense with the punishment of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
