Ronald Raymond Morris, 77, of Stockport, IA passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2022, at the Ottumwa Regional Health Care Center. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 16, 2022, at the Cranston Family Funeral Home in Fairfield, IA. Funeral services, with military honors, will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Deacon Dave Heise officiating. Cremation will follow the service with burial to be held at a later date in the Spencer Cemetery near Stockport. Memorial contributions in Ron’s honor may be directed to a veteran’s organization of the donor’s choice and may be left at the funeral home or mailed to 1 Oak Ridge Rd., Apt. 201, Ottumwa, IA 52501. Ronald Raymond Morris was born on December 28, 1944, in Sigourney, IA to Ralph and Edna Brown Morris. The family spent several years in Sigourney before moving to Van Buren County where he attended school and graduated with the Keosauqua High School Class of 1964. After graduation he spent 2 years at Parson’s College in Fairfield. In July of 1967 he joined the United States Air Force where he proudly served his county until his honorable discharge as Sergeant in May of 1971. During his time in the Air Force, he worked as a specialist offloading military freight and was awarded a Commendation Medal for his service. Upon returning home he began working as a MIG welder at several different jobs including John Deere in Ottumwa and eventually Barker Wire in Keosauqua where he would retire after 14 years as a dedicated employee. On December 29, 2007, Ron was united in marriage to Janice Stevens. Ron and Janice would spend their life together in the house that Ron grew up in. They enjoyed traveling, taking care of their yard and home, and just spending time with each other. Ron was always proud of his country and service and was able to participate in the Honor Flight
in May of 2019. He also served the veterans of Van Buren County as the VA Assistant Director from 2012 until 2015. When Ron would see a tattered flag, he would often stop to offer a new one to replace the old. Ron was a member of the Fairfield First Christian Church and loved playing a good hand of cards. Ron was Janice’s soulmate, and he will be remembered by his family and friends as a
kindhearted, loving, gentle man.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings, Margaret Dorothy, Dorothy Poole, and Marcene Dowell.

Left to honor his memory is his loving wife and soulmate, Janice Morris of Ottumwa, IA; two daughters, Angela Morris of Oskaloosa, IA, and Jennifer (John) Osborn of Jacksonville, FL; stepson, Derek (Amy) Stevens of Florida; seven grandchildren, one great grandchild; a brother, Terry (Jane) Morris and a stepsister, Karee Johnson, as well as many extended family and friends.
