Ronald Dyer

Ronald Eugene Dyer, 86, of Ottumwa died at 3:21 a.m. October 21, 2018 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

He was born July 28, 1932 in Wapello County to Donald Dyer and Lucille Bitner.  He married Barbara Jean Roberts on August 29, 1977 and she preceded him in death August 26, 2018.

A resident of Ottumwa all of his life, Ronald worked road construction and helped build the Red Rock Dam. He had worked for Ottumwa Community Schools as a custodian for many schools, retiring from James Elementary in 1995.

He enjoyed attending auctions and flea markets and operating his monthly garage sales. Ronald also enjoyed assembling puzzles, mowing lawns and fishing.

He is survived by three daughters, Celeste (David) Peterson of Ottumwa, Judy (Brian) Peachey and Becky Dyer, both of Arkansas; a son, Steven Dyer of Ottumwa; a step-son, Tom (Natalie) Costello of London, England; ten grandchildren, Dustin Peterson, Maleah Mier, Charles Dyer, Rachelle Roberts, Isaac Nesbitt, Larissa Faulknor, Brianna Peachey, Stephanie Sinclair, Kelly Boone, Danny Dyer; two step-grandchildren, J.D. and Anna Costello; sixteen great grandchildren; a half-sister, Deborah Dyer of Galesburg, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Barbara Paxton.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home with  Wes Van Antwerp officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation will begin 11 a.m. Tuesday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials may be made to the family.
