Richard Payne

Richard E. Payne, age 86, of Moulton, passed away Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Richard was born on April 11, 1932 in Moulton, Iowa, the son of Alton and Emma (Rutledge) Payne.  He graduated from Moulton-Udell High School.  On October 21, 1952, he entered the United States Army.  He served his country faithfully during the Korean War, and was honorably discharged on October 14, 1954.  Richard was united in marriage to Mary Powell on April 13, 1953.  To this union, three children were born, Rich, Ray and Linda.

Richard started his career with Union Carbide/Viskase Manufacturing in Chicago, Illinois.  He eventually moved to Moulton, Iowa, and retired after a total of 38 years.  During retirement, he enjoyed working in the garage.  Richard loved having coffee in his garage with his Moulton friends.  Most importantly, he was very fond of spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Left to honor Richard’s memory are his children, Rich (Jackie) Payne of Lake In The Hills, Illinois, Ray (Mindy) Payne of Centerville, and Linda Hanson of Moulton; five grandchildren, Nicole Nowlin, Jason Payne, Kristin Hornsberger, Jennifer Knowler, and Maria Knigge; as well as eleven great grandchildren, Jayden Barnhill, Ethan Knigge, Gracie Knigge, Trayton Knowler, Jaylin Knowler, Caley Payne, Ryder Horsberger, Max Nowlin, Audrey Nowlin, Landon Payne, and Blake Payne.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Alton and Emma Payne; his wife, Mary Payne.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00AM, Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Lange Funeral Home in Centerville with Rev. Jerry Weller officiating.  Burial with military rites will follow the service at Sunset View Cemetery in Moulton.  A Visitation will take place, Friday, December 28, 2018 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville, with the family greeting friends from 5:00-7:00PM.  Memorials have been established to either the Moulton First Responders or the Moulton Chamber of Commerce Car Show, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.  Condolences may be shared online at www.langefh.com.
