Reynolds Signs Bill, Sports Gambling Legal in Iowa

By Ellis Codjoe, May 14, 2019

Sports gambling is now legal in the state of Iowa.

Monday, Governor Kim Reynolds signed a bill that legalizes gambling on college and professional sports. Anyone 21 years of age or older can place sports bets at any of Iowa’s 19 casinos or online after registering in person at a casino.

The bill received bipartisan support through the Iowa House and Senate.

Additionally, Iowans are also allowed to play on fantasy sports websites like DraftKings and FanDuel.

In 2018, the United State Supreme Court paved the way for states to legalize sports betting by striking down a 1992 federal law that prohibited most states from allowing it.

Iowa becomes the 11th state in the county to legalize sports gambling.
