Reynolds Orders Flags at Half-Staff in Honor of Lyon County Sheriff’s Deputy

By Ellis Codjoe, August 19, 2019

Governor Kim Reynolds has ordered all state flags in Iowa to be lowered to half-staff all day Monday, August 19 in honor and remembrance of a Lyon County Sheriff’s Deputy who recently died while on duty.

Stephanie Schreurs, 60, was a 24 year veteran of the Lyon County Sheriff’s Department. Friday, August 9, Schreurs was driving a 2018 Ford Explorer Police SUV NB in a non-emergency situation near Rock Rapids when her vehicle ran off the road, vaulted a private driveway and rolled over several times.

Schreurs was airlifted to a hospital in Sioux City but died of her injuries Tuesday, August 13.

The governor is encouraging individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, counties, and other government subdivisions to fly the flag at half-staff for the same length of time as a sign of respect.
