Rex Chickering

Rex Lynn Chickering, 50, of Prairie City, IA passed away Monday, October 29, 2018 due to injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.  A memorial service in his honor will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at the Cranston Family Funeral Home in Eldon, IA with Pastor Leila Disburg officiating.  Burial will be held at a later date.  Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Cranston Family Funeral Home and last until the time of service.  A luncheon will be served at the Willard Street Methodist Church (175 N. Willard St., Ottumwa, IA) immediately following the service.  Memorial contributions in Rex’s honor may be directed to the family, and mailed in care of Cranston Family Funeral Home, P.O. Rex Lynn Chickering was born August 22, 1968 in Ottumwa, IA to Jack and Druecilla Fitzsimmons Chickering.  He grew up in Agency, IA and attended Cardinal Community Schools where he graduated with the class of 1986.  He went on to Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa before entering the workforce.  In October of 1999 he was united in marriage to Errin Sautter.  The two later divorced, but remained loving parents to their son, Joel.  Rex had spent the last 20 years living in Prairie City, IA where he currently worked as a steamfitter at Excel.  He was a gifted mechanic and enjoyed working on cars with the help of his son Joel.  He enjoyed fishing, playing horseshoes and riding his motorcycles.  Rex was a member of the Willard Street Methodist Church in Ottumwa, as well as the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local #33.  Rex was a loving father and caring friend who will be deeply missed.

Rex was preceded in death by his grandparents, Frank (Doris) Chickering and Charles (Bertha) Fitzsimmons, as well as several aunts and uncles.

Left to share his story is his son, Joel Edward Chickering of Monroe, IA; his parents, Jack (Druecilla) Chickering of Agency, IA; one sister, Joan (Steve) Raider of Tulsa, OK; one niece, Courtney (Robert) Stott and their children, Wyatt and Paisley Stott, as well as many extended family and friends.
