Penn Place Retirement Center, Sylvan Woods and The Haven Sold to Iowa-based Company Prairie Hills

(Ottumwa) – Officials at Ottumwa Regional Health Center announced today that Penn Place Retirement Center, including Sylvan Woods and The Haven, has been sold to Prairie Hills effective May 31, 2014. Going forward, the retirement community will be known as “Prairie Hills at Penn Place.”

According to Ottumwa Regional Health Center CEO Phil Noel, “Prairie Hills is solely focused on retirement communities just like Penn Place, so I am confident that they will be able to provide a level of focus and expertise that this community deserves. Prairie Hills will be able to make appropriate capital investments to improve the community, focus on operations to improve residents daily experience, and provide a renewed emphasis, using their vast expertise and resources, on growing the number of residents in this community.”

Prairie Hills was founded in 2004, and following the completion of the Prairie Hills at Penn Place transaction, will own and operate seven retirement communities all across Iowa. Other facilities are located in Tipton, Independence, Clinton, South Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, and Prairie Hills at Ottumwa. In addition to growing through development and acquisition, the company has also increased the size of their retirement communities, adding units in Clinton, Independence, and South Des Moines.

Joanie McGinnis, president of Prairie Hills said, “We are excited about this opportunity to further serve the Ottumwa community. Penn Place, Sylvan Woods, and The Haven have a long legacy of providing outstanding care and service to their residents and families and we look forward to building on that tradition. Over the next few weeks, we will be holding meetings with all interested residents to explain the ownership transition and what it will mean to them. During these meetings we will be able to tell them more about our company and our exciting plans for the future of this community.”

Ms. McGinnis added, “We have owned and operated Prairie Hills at Ottumwa since 2007 and are looking forward to expanding our ability to serve the citizens of Wapello County. We are also committed to maintaining the long standing relationship between Penn Place and Ottumwa Regional Health Center. ORHC is vital to the health and well-being of our residents at Penn Place Retirement Center, including Sylvan Woods and The Haven, and the entire southeast Iowa region.”

Mr. Noel said, “This transition will allow Ottumwa Regional Health Center to be solely focused on improving and expanding hospital services throughout our region. Given all the changes in healthcare delivery today, it is important that we all focus on our core competencies. We will continue to recruit physicians, improve services, and partner with regional hospitals to increase access to a great continuum of care.”
