Pekin Schools Announce Adjusted Schedule

By Ellis Codjoe, February 17, 2019

Whether it’s been ice storms, heavy snow or bitterly cold temperatures, Mother Nature has kept school administrators on their toes this winter in southeast Iowa.

Dave Harper, Superintendent of the Pekin Community School District, announced a plan that will make up for all of the hours that were lost due to the inclement weather.

Starting Monday, February 25, Pekin will begin class 10 minutes earlier than normal and dismiss five minutes later. School day will start at 8:05 AM (breakfast served at 7:50 AM) and end at 3:35 PM. The departure time for school buses will be 3:40 PM.

Bus pickup times will be 15 minutes earlier.

Harper also declared that class will be in session for the following days:

  • Monday, February 18, 2019

  • Monday, March 4, 2019 – 1:30 dismissal – Iowa Assessment PD for teachers

  • Monday, April 1, 2019

  • Monday, May 6, 2019

  • Friday, May 24, 2019 – 11:30 dismissal – Last day of school for students
