PACKWOOD, IA – The Pekin High boys’ track & field squad made the most of their return to competition for the first time since 2019, winning their home Invitational Monday at the ten-team Ruritan Relays. The Panthers finished atop the standings in seven of the individual and team events, totaling 124 points to win the Invite: Mason Juhl in the shot put (40-08.00), Michael Jones 110 Meter Hurdles (19.09), Brady Millikin in the 1600 and 3200 Meter Run (5:05.79/11:12.62), Zack Wise 800 Meter Run (2:16.24), plus the boys’ Distance Medley and 4×100 Meter Shuttle Hurdle teams.
Pekin outpaced second place Cardinal by 53 points as the Comets took second at the Relays with a team total of 71. Junior Griffin Greiner did his part in leading the team from Eldon in their spring debut, winning the 100 Meter Dash (12.43), 200 Meter Dash (25.50), 400 Meter Dash (52.73), and the boys’ High Jump (6-02.00).
The Sigourney boys’ team finished fifth (57) thanks to first place finishes from their relay teams: 4×100 Meter (48.65) and 4×200 Meter (1:43.30). Moravia placed seventh (52) with a pair of wins in the 4×400 Meter Relay (3:49.00) and the 800 Sprint Medley (1:47.17). And Van Buren County took ninth (38) at the Relays as sophomore Wyatt Mertens took the title in the Long Jump with a leap of 18-11.75.
