In a game that turned into a tense, scoreless pitcher’s duel, Davis County finally blinked in the 10th inning when an RBI double by Mason Juhl provided the game’s first run. The Panthers added another run and Chase Stansberry pitched his last of six scoreless innings in relief in Pekin’s 2-0 win in Bloomfield on Monday night.
Both teams had their chances to score before the game went to extra innings. Mustang center fielder Clay Collier threw out Cael Baker at the plate when the latter tried to score from second on a single in the top of the 7th inning.
Davis County had runners at second and third with one out in the bottom of the 7th but Stansberry struck out Noah Zmolek and Gavin McCall to end the threat.
Davis County stranded 12 runners in the game. Pekin left 11 men on base.
The Mustangs drop to 4-5 on the season. Davis County will be back in action Tuesday night in Eldon where they will be taking on the Cardinal Comets.
