Pekin baseball allowed to continue season following negative COVID-19 case

PACKWOOD, IA – The Pekin Panthers will be able to continue their 2020 baseball season after a member of the team had to be tested for COVID-19, however the results came back negative. Management sent out a release Sunday evening stating that everything came back negative, and they are ready to continue the season.

The release did not specify whether the tested individual is a player, coach, or other member of the team. However, sources close to the team told Ottumwa Radio Group that it was a player who needed to be tested after being around family members last weekend who tested positive for the virus.

A positive test would have resulted in a two-week quarantine and, with Districts beginning this Saturday, would have more than likely ended the Panthers season prematurely.

With the all clear, Pekin will be on the road Monday night taking on Davis County in Bloomfield.
