Dog Hollow Rendezvous

August 6, 2016

IT IS TIME FOR THE DOG HOLLOW RENDEZVOUS! SATURDAY, AUGUST 6, 2016, 10 am TO 4 pm

Rendezvous means gathering, and men and women who live and demonstrate the skills of the 1840 Iowa Frontier will be gathered together around the pioneer buildings and homes of Nelson Pioneer Farm and Museum in Oskaloosa.  Over 50 re-enactors are expected to display their wares, demonstrate their skills and teach the trades of the people of the frontier.

The lost arts of this era will be brought to life for you to observe and participate in. Expect blacksmithing, hawk and knife throwing, and demonstrations in cooking, beading, and leatherwork. The Timberwolves will share with you their passion for the lifestyle of those that roamed these lands with the Sauk, the Meskwaki, and the buffalo.

Nelson Pioneer Farm and Museum offers an opportunity to look at the lives of the next generation of pioneer settlers. There are homes and buildings from 1853 to 1915 open for investigating. You may also visit the Mahaska County Historical Society museum with two floors of artifacts that tell the history of Mahaska County. Don’t miss a visit to the gift shop as well.

Funds raise at this event will be used to maintain the vintage buildings at Nelson Pioneer Farm. Beverages and a BBQ lunch will be sold at Bradbury Hall between 11 am and 3 pm.

Admission/parking is $20.00 per car. MCHS members are free.
