Pair Face Charges after Alleged Robbery

Two Heartland men have been arrested after authorities say a victim was assaulted and robbed.

At a residence on East Rochester on Saturday morning, Ottumwa police say 40-year-old Caleb Nelson of Batavia (left in picture) hit a male victim with a baseball bat and put a gun to his forehead. Nelson allegedly took the victim’s cell phone and wallet.

42-year-old Thomas Williams of Ames (right) was at the scene when officers say they made contact with him. When asked if he had anything on his person, Williams allegedly dropped a baggie of a crystal-like substance from his pocket. The substance tested positive for methamphetamine which weighed 3.4 ounces according to court documents.

Nelson was arrested and charged with first-degree robbery. He is currently in the Wapello County Jail on a $25,000 bond.

Williams was charged with prohibited acts. He is currently free after posting bond.
