An Ottumwa woman was arrested following a Sunday afternoon crash after it was discovered she had been drinking alcohol and had two children in the car as well.

The Ottumwa Police Department says 28-year-old Nenrose Lorennij was the cause of a three-car accident at 2:42 PM in the area of westbound Highway 34 and northbound Highway 63.

Court records say Lorennij’s 8-year-old child and a second child who is also 8 were with her in the vehicle while she was driving in an intoxicated state. The children were not wearing seat belts.

Authorities say Lorennij smelled strongly of alcohol and appeared confused at times. Lorennij allegedly had two open containers in the pocket of a coat she was wearing. There was also spilled alcoholic beverages in the vehicle because of the crash.

Lorennij consented to a field sobriety test which she failed. Court documents say her blood alcohol level was 0.136%, over the legal limit of 0.08%.

Lorennij has been charged with neglect or abandonment of a dependent person (Class C felony) and operating while under the influence (serious misdemeanor)
