An Ottumwa woman is accused of having her children live in conditions that authorities describe as “not fit for human habitation.”
32-year-old Leslie Davis has been charged with child endangerment, an aggravated misdemeanor.
Court records say Davis lived with her two children (ages 1 and 2) in a metal shed that had no windows, air conditioning, or running water. The temperature inside the shed exceeded 90 degrees. Law enforcement discovered this living arrangement on June 11th, 2021.
According to Ottumwa police, the children were in close proximity to a spoon that contained methamphetamine.
Davis is also accused of leaving her children in the care of her boyfriend while he was high/intoxicated.
A warrant was issued for Davis’ arrest on February 7th and she was taken into custody on February 18th.
Davis was transported to the Wapello County Jail and is currently free after posting bond.
Davis has a preliminary hearing scheduled for February 25th.
