Ottumwa, Surrounding Areas Brace for Heat Wave

A heat wave is set to hit Ottumwa and the surrounding areas.

The National Weather Service issued a Heat Advisory that will go into effect Monday at noon and last until 7:00 Tuesday evening. High temperatures and high humidity is expected for Wapello, Appanoose, Davis, Mahaska, and Monroe Counties. Monday’s forecast shows a high of 97 degrees and the heat index value to reach 105.

Residents are advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, and check on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should not be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.

The heat is anticipated to continue into Tuesday with a forecasted high of 99 degrees.
