Ottumwa, Sigourney Declare Snow Emergencies


A couple of southeast Iowa cities announced snow emergencies.

Ottumwa’s snow emergency goes into effect at 10:00 AM Friday. Residents are not permitted to park on streets designated as snow routes. Snow routes are marked with a square blue sign with a white snowflake. A map of Ottumwa’s snow routes can be found here.

For non-emergency snow route streets, parking is allowed on the even-numbered side of the street on even days and the odd-numbered side of the street on odd days. Violators of the ordinance are subject to being towed and impounded. They will receive a citation as well.

The snow emergency in Sigourney starts at 7:00 PM Friday and ends at 7:00 PM Saturday. During the snow emergency, no vehicles are permitted to park on city streets. Cars found parked on the streets may be ticketed and towed.
