The city of Ottumwa recently received a financing award for its work during the fiscal year that ended June 2020.
The Government Finance Officers Association awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to the city. According to a press release, the certificate is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting.
Kala Mulder, Financial Director for the city, talked about what this award means to Ottumwa.
“The Certificate shows the City of Ottumwa goes beyond the minimal requirements of generally accepted accounting principals to prepare the comprehensive annual Financial report.”
The City of Ottumwa’s annual financial report was judged by a panel of professionals to meet high standards including demonstrating a “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate the City’s financial story, the press release states.
Mulder credits her staff for its hard work and says the certificate means something significant to her personally.
“Coming to the city a year and a half ago, i wanted to have more transparency and a major goal of mine was for our citizens to understand how our financial funds and infrastructure work.”
The Certificate program was established in 1945 to recognize and encourage excellence in financial reporting in state and local governments.
