Ottumwa RAGBRAI® Will Display Vintage Bike Collection

Ottumwa, IA (June 30, 2016)-RAGBRAI has always been an opportunity to show communities creativity and passions.

Ottumwa has been working to reestablish two historical theatre buildings in the downtown area as a creative centerpiece for the community.  Members of the community saw this as an opportunity to share and display their personnel collections of vintage bicycles. Working with the Ottumwa Regional Legacy Foundation, members of the biking community reached out to showcase some of the best bicycles from their personal collections.

The bikes will be on display at the old Ottumwa Theater on Thursday, July 28 from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The display will showcase 25 to 30 different styles of vintage bicycles covering over 90 years. On display will be bicycles manufactured from all over the world and some of the manufacturers are no longer in business. The collection includes classic three speeds, non-indexed road bikes from the 70s, 80s and 90s, early BMX bikes, a classic folding bike, cruisers from the 50s and 60s, and single speed tank bikes from the 40s and 50s. Also, the Wapello County Historical Society is lending their big wheel bike.

Everyone is encouraged to visit the old Ottumwa Theater and observe the many changes in bicycles over the last 90 years. You probably will not see any of these bikes on the road.
