Ottumwa Participates in Iowa Restaurant Week

By Aaryn Frazier, September 13, 2018

Main Street Ottumwa is participating in a statewide event to  promote local restaurants, bars and coffee shops.

The event is Restaurant Week from September 14 through September 23. According to Fred Zesiger, director of Main Street Ottumwa, it is the first year Ottumwa has participated, but he hopes to continue next year. It is also at the same time as the art walk downtown.

“Each participant can pick up a passport at a participating establishment,” Zesiger said. “They must have at least ten stamps in order to be eligible for a drawing for eighty dollars worth of food or drinks from the establishments.”

The Art Walk is on September 15 and there will be a tent set up with free tastings. There will be samples of food and drinks from the various restaurants, bars and coffee shops downtown.

“You can also pick up a passport at the tent,” said Zesiger. “We think the ten-stamp thing is pretty easy. With the variation in food types, you can get two or three in a day. People are surprised we have sixteen places just downtown.”

The event has participants in surrounding towns as well. For more information about participants or specials go to the Main Street Ottumwa Facebook page or contact Fred Zesiger at (641) 799-3464.
