An Ottumwa man was killed during a robbery attempt in a park on Monday, according to Des Moines Police.

The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old D’Anthony Coleman (pictured).

The Des Moines Police Department says evidence in the investigation indicates that four individuals agreed to meet at McRae Park to conduct a transaction. During that transaction, a robbery attempt occurred.

Coleman was shot and killed at the scene. Detectives were able to determine the identity of the three other individuals.

A 17-year-old Brighton resident was arrested and charged with first-degree robbery.

After the vehicle used in the robbery was identified, police were able to locate the vehicle and attempted to make contact with the residents in the home associated with the vehicle.

A single gunshot was heard from the residence as law enforcement knocked on the door. Other individuals ran out of the home and told officers that a person shot himself. After entering the home, an 18-year-old was discovered deceased by suicide.

The third individual, a juvenile male, was identified as being involved in the robbery but has not been charged.

The incident remains under investigation.
