Ottumwa Man Charged With Drug Trafficking

An Ottumwa man is facing drug trafficking charges following the execution of a Drug Task Force search warrant.

According to a press release, at around 2:15 p.m. on Thursday, May 13, officers from the Ottumwa Police Department, Wapello County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, and the Southeast Iowa Inter-Agency Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at a residence on Friendly Lane in Ottumwa. The search yielded over a pound of methamphetamine, quantities of marijuana indicative of distribution, US currency, and other items related to the distribution of illegal drugs.

As a result of the search, 59 year old Robert Allen Engle of Ottumwa was placed under arrest. He has been charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute more than 5 grams of methamphetamine within 1000 feet of a school (Class B Felony), Possession with Intent to Distribute marijuana within 1000 feet of a school (Class D Felony), and 2 counts of Drug Tax Stamp Violation (Class D Felonies). According to Iowa Courts Online, Engle has a significant record of Controlled Substance and Drug Tax Stamp Violations beginning in 1996.

Also arrested at the same location was 32 year old Kristi Lee Engle, on an outstanding warrant for a parole violation.

As a reminder, a criminal charge is merely an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
