An Ottumwa man is facing charges stemming from an alleged burglary that took place last week.
According to a press release, on June 17th , 2021, at approximately 11:01 P.M., the Wapello County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in the 3000 block of Lake Road in Ottumwa. Deputies responded to the residence after the homeowners called 911 and stated that an intruder had just entered their residence and discharged a shotgun at one of the homeowners. The homeowners explained that they had never seen the shooter before.
Deputies and investigators arrived and began to collect evidence inside of the residence and photographed an interior wall that had sustained damage from an apparent shotgun blast. An investigation into the shooting was initiated.
On June 18th, 2021, at approximately 1:37 P.M., Deputies located 38-year-old Jeffery Michael Huffman on 30th Street in Ottumwa. The portion of 30th Street Huffman was located on was in close proximity of the shooting. Huffman was transported to the Wapello County Jail and interviewed. During the interview, Huffman allegedly admitted to entering the residence with a loaded shotgun. Huffman was ultimately arrested and charged with Attempted Murder, 1st Degree Burglary, Going Armed with Intent, and Possession of Methamphetamine. Additional charges are pending. Huffman is being held in the Wapello County Jail in lieu of a $250,000 bond.
