An Ottumwa man faces a felony charge after authorities say he deposited a check that didn’t belong to him.
21-year-old Gerardo Magana has been charged with forgery, a Class D felony.
Court records say on November 11th, 2021, Magana came into possession of a business check that belonged to the victim. Magana allegedly wrote the check against the victim’s business account for $600, signed the check, and put the money into his personal bank account via mobile deposit. Authorities say the bank eventually removed the funds from Magana’s account.
A warrant for Magana was issued and he has arrested on February 25th.
Magana was transported to the Wapello County Jail and was freed after posting bond. He waived his preliminary hearing.
