A southeast Iowa man was arrested after leading authorities on a chase Thursday morning.

Wapello County Sheriff Don Phillips told Ottumwa Radio News that Wapello County deputies tried to perform a traffic stop on a vehicle around 4:00 AM near Cliffland Park, southeast of Ottumwa.

24-year-old Michael Lippincott of Ottumwa was driving a Chevy flatbed truck but refused to stop, according to Phillips. Lippincott allegedly drove through Agency and then traveled westbound on Highway 34.

The Ottumwa Police Department was called to assist and officers laid out spike strips near exit 191. The strips flattened two of the truck’s tires.

Phillips says Lippincott exited his vehicle and attempted to escape on foot. Authorities caught Lippincott after a short chase and placed him under arrest. He was transported to the Wapello County Jail.

Lippincott has been charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (marijuana), Eluding, and Driving with a Suspended Licence. He was freed after posting bond.
