Ottumwa Man Accused Of Hotel Burglary


An Ottumwa man is facing charges of robbery following an incident at a hotel at the beginning of November.

According to court records, 49 year old Bertino Weires along with unspecified collaborators entered room 216 at the AmericInn in Ottumwa at around 2:00 pm on November 1st. Upon entry, Weires threatened the occupant with a large wooden chair. Weires and his accomplices allegedly proceeded to steal cash, a passport, a Social Security card and a cellphone from the victim.

Court records indicate that Weires was located by police shortly after the alleged incident and was taken into custody. He stands charged with 1st Degree Robbery, a class B felony. He was transported to the Wapello County Jail where he has been held on a $25,000 bond.
