A structure fire on the corner of Iowa Avenue and East Main Street illuminated the south side of Ottumwa early Sunday morning.
Multiple fire crews were called to the building at approximately 3:30 AM. Figherfighters fought the blaze for most of the morning.
Assistant Fire Chief Vince Wilcoxson told Ottumwa Radio News that no one was in the building at the time of the fire. Wilcoxson said the structure contained office spaces and apartments. He didn’t have an estimate of the damage the fire cause but said the damge was “significant.”
The cause of the fire is unknown. Wilcoxson said an investigation will be conducted on Monday.
