Ottumwa Declares Snow Emergency

By Ellis Codjoe, January 10, 2020

The city of Ottumwa announced a snow emergency, effective 6:00 PM Friday, January 10 until further notice.

During a snow emergency, no parking is allowed on streets that are designated as “snow routes.” These streets are marked with a square blue sign with a white snowflake. A map of Ottumwa’s snow routes can be found here.

In regards to non-snow emergency route streets, parking rotates on a daily basis. On even-numbered days, parking is permitted on the even-numbered (address) side of the street. Residents can park their vehicles on the odd-numbered side of the street on odd-numbered days.

Parking in violation of the above ordinance could subject the car to be towed and impounded. A citation will be issued as well.

The city of Ottumwa also wants to remind motorists to travel a safe distance away from snowplow trucks since the drivers cannot see directly behind them and frequently stop and/or back up.
