The city of Ottumwa announced city offices will be closed beginning Wednesday, November 18th in response to the rise of positive cases of COVID-19.
Citizens will only be able to enter city buildings and offices if an appointment is scheduled. The decision to temporarily close the buildings matches the city’s twofold strategy of reducing the spread of the virus and aiding in the long-term continuity of services for the public, according to a press release from the city of Ottumwa.
The city says it will monitor the situation and reopen at the earliest possibility. The public is encouraged to utilize the phone, email, and the U.S. Postal Service as alternatives during this temporary closing.
