A single vehicle accident claimed the life of a southeast Iowa man on Thursday morning.
Deputies from the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office discovered a 2001 MACK cement transport truck on the 1500 block of Highway 63 in rural New Sharon. According to a press release, the cement truck was fully loaded at the time of the accident.
An investigation into the wreck revealed a blown rear tire. Authorities say the driver lost control of the vehicle while traveling northbound, crossed into the southbound lane, entered a ditch, and rolled over.
51-year-old Ray Fogle of Oskaloosa was identified as the driver. Fogle suffered life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to Des Moines. Shortly after arriving at Mercy Hospital, Fogle died from his injuries.
