Orville A. Headley Sr., 91, of Ottumwa, died at 8:20 p.m. April 28, 2019 at Vista Woods Care Center.
He was born September 5, 1927 in Ottumwa to William and Leona Surber Headley.
A resident of Ottumwa all of his life, Orville served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII, serving in Okinawa, Japan.
He was a semi truck driver for 18 years for Rock Island Motor, and was the Business Agent and Recording Secretary for Teamsters Local #147, retiring in 1984.
Orville had been a member of O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion, Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #114. He was an avid fisherman, liked to play poker and enjoyed gardening and flowers.
Surviving are four children, Roy (Judy) Headley and Rhonda (Richard) Flores both of Ottumwa, Michael (Becky) Bonney of Atlantic and Suzi (Don) Venator of Ottumwa; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, James (Mabel) Headley Sr. of Ottumwa and a sister, Lillian (Norman) West of Ottumwa.
He was preceded in death by sons, Paul “Larry” Headley and Orville Headley Jr.; brothers, Tobe, Don, Arnold, Walt and Earl Headley; sisters, Emmie Dyke and Shirley Adamson and a grandson.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with D.J. Danner officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery with military services conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
Visitation is open at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The family will be present one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
