A head-on collision in Marion County claimed the life of a southeast Iowa man Wednesday morning.
The Iowa State Patrol says a pickup truck driven by 89-year-old Donald Shelford of Lovilia was traveling southeast on Highway 5 at 7:53 AM. Another truck driven by 51-year-old Janet Billings of Albia was traveling northwest on the same highway.
Both trucks were trying to negotiate a curve on the highway when the accident occurred. Shelford died from the injuries sustained in the crash. Billings was transported to Monroe County Hospital where her status is unknown.
Shelford was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, according to the crash report. Billings was wearing a seat belt.
