October 2, 2014 – Ottumwa, Iowa – Ottumwa’s annual Oktoberfest parade is this Saturday morning, October 4th. The parade route goes down Church Street – from the South Ottumwa Savings Bank to Five Corners. It is one of Ottumwa’s signature events and attracts a large number of spectators and participants every year.
There are a number of street closures and on-street parking restrictions for the parade route and staging area. This Saturday morning, there will be no on-street parking allowed on Church Street or on the section of Weller Street between Bardell and Church.
Madison Avenue, from Bardell to Vine Street, is the parade staging area and will be closed to through traffic Saturday morning. Church Street, from Weller to Five Corners, is the main parade route, and will be closed to traffic shortly before the parade begins at 10 AM.
Parade-goers should plan ahead for slow traffic and crowded parking conditions. Parade spectators are asked to keep out of the street once the parade is underway. Approaching moving vehicles and floats can be very dangerous. Drivers should be alert for a high volume of pedestrians.
