(Written by Jason Van Arkel) The Ottumwa softball team did what it was supposed to do Wednesday night, sweeping Des Moines North 16-0 and 17-0 in a CIML Metro Conference doubleheader. Both games lasted only three innings.
The Bulldogs actually failed to score in the first inning of game one but made up for it by scoring all 16 of their runs in the second inning. A total of 22 hitters went to the plate in the frame. Jocelyn Ware drove in three runs in her two at-bats in the inning, and Jordan Pauls cracked her third home run of the season.
In the nightcap, Ottumwa scored 12 in the first inning and five more in the second. Ella Thompson hit a 3-run double in the opening frame, while Ella Allar, Anna Wellings, Madelyn Houk, and Chloe Bradley each had two-run hits.
OHS pitching limited North to just three hits, all in the second game. Ashlynn Sheets (3-3) and Sydney Rockhold combined to allow just one baserunner in the opener, while Chloe Bradley (2-2) struck out six over three innings in the nightcap.
Ottumwa improved to 5-5 on the season, 3-1 in the Metro, while North dropped to 0-7.
