OHS Softball Enters the Rankings

The Ottumwa High softball team began the season unranked, but that did not last long.  The second poll of the season, released Friday afternoon, places the 7-1 Bulldogs #10 in the state in Class 5A.

Ironically, the first opponent OHS faces as a ranked team this season is Des Moines Lincoln, who began the year in the #10 spot now occupied by Ottumwa.  Lincoln got off to a 2-5 start to fall out of the polls, although the Railsplitters’ schedule was one of the most challenging in the state, with games against Southeast Polk, Indianola, Des Moines East and Waukee.

The Bulldogs and Rails meet Monday night in Des Moines for a doubleheader beginning at 6:00 on 1240 KBIZ.  The games are the first two of what will be a challenging week for Ottumwa, as they host East on Wednesday, travel to Hoover on Thursday and then play four games over two days Friday and Saturday in the Davenport West Classic.
